Senate approves US$160 million in government loans

The Senate of the Republic approved US$160 million (RD$8.82 billion), in two loans with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The funds will be used for social projects.

A US$60 million loan will be used to finance the program to support the transparency and integrity agenda in the Dominican Republic under the Ethics and Government Integrity Agency of former Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch. The office is under the Presidency.

The second loan agreement is for the financing of the program to support the consolidation of an inclusive social protection system in the country. The general management of the Supérate Program will administer this debt. The Supérate Program has been marred by fraud and corruption.
