Nigeria scored on two errors of the Dominican team; the DR scored on a penalty. The Dominicans scored from a spot kick 21 minutes into the game after Benjamin Frederick’s tackle inside the box that led to a penalty.
The media covering the event reported that during the anthem playing protocol, a technical glitch caused the national anthem of the Dominican Republic to be interrupted shortly after starting and how the Dominican team members continued singing loud and proud, garnering them enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
Experts forecast that in Group D the DR had only a chance to defeat Nigeria. The other teams are Italy and Brazil.
The Dominican Republic is ranked 151st in the world according to FIFA records. Nigeria is ranked 40th.
