Weather expert Jean Suriel reported on his Instagram account that in 24 hours, more than 125 lighting strikes had recently occurred nationwide as a result of the stationary trough. He attributes this to a period of intense convective activity that extends regularly from May to September but this 2023 began in mid-April.
He explained the thunderstorm activity is due to the increase in temperatures in the Atlantic and Caribbean Sea waters.
