18 to 25 year olds make up 16% of voters in 2024 general elections

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has been reporting that the young vote will decide the elections again this year.

Dominicans aged 18 to 25 are 1,304,456, or 16.09% of the 8,084,800 authorized to vote in the 18 February municipal and the 19 May presidential and congressional elections.

Those aged 26 to 30 are another 11% or 898,631 eligible voters.

Those aged 31-40 are 20.4%, or 1,654,323.

This adds up to 47% of the vote being in the hands of people 40 years or younger.

The following voter segments are:

41-50 years, 17.85%, or 1,446,591 eligible voters.

51-60 years, 15.54% or 1,259,835 eligible voters.

61-70 years, 10.45% or 846,978 eligible voters.

71+ years, 8.32% or 674,016 eligible voters.

Most voters in the Dominican Republic reside in the two largest metropolitan areas – Greater Santo Domingo and Santiago with 45.19% of eligible voters.
