FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifier game in Santo Domingo

The Dominican Republic is one of 16 teams distributed in four groups of four teams each competing in the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers. Each team will play each opponent in their group twice under a “home and away” format during three windows, which will take place in February and November 2024 and then in February 2025. The FIBA AmeriCup 2025 will be held at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua, Nicaragua from 23 to 31 August 2025.

The DR senior basketball team plays Mexico this coming 23 February 2024 as part of Group C in the group qualifier stage of the FIBA AmeriCup. In Group C, the DR will match Mexico, Canada and the AmeriCup host, Nicaragua. As host, regardless of performance, Nicaragua has ensured a slot in the AmeriCup 2025.

Dominican team members include team captain Victor Liz, Jean Montero, Angel Luis Delgado, Juan Miguel Suero, Richard Bautista, Gelvis Solano, Eloy Vargas, Andres Feliz, Luismal Ferreiras, Juan Guerrero, Omar Silverio, among others. David Diaz is the coach.

Mexico and DR will play on Friday, 23 February 2024 at the Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

The window continues in Mexico City at the Arena CDMX at 8:10pm on 26 February 2024.

The games are part of what is known as the first window of the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup Qualifiers, to be played between the 22 and 26 February 2024.

The qualifiers mark the beginning of a new cycle for the 16 participating teams – Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela.

High-pedigree nations like United States, Brazil, Argentina, Canada and Puerto Rico will look to maintain their dominance over the region, while others will try to remain competitive or continue growing.
