Safe Easter Week operation; 8,000 volunteers deployed for traveler safety during Easter Week

President Luis Abinader announced the Easter Week “Awareness for Life 2024” domestic travel safety operation during the weekly Monday press conference on 25 March 2024 from the Presidential Palace. The operation calls for a trained staff of 49,723 people (military, police, doctors, paramedics, search and rescue specialists) on the road and in vacation destinations and more than 3,323 aid stations located in critical points.

The Civil Defense, the country’s largest volunteer movement, has readied 8,000 volunteers for patrols nationwide, announced Juan Chalas, director of the organization.

The volunteers and government staff have been readied to provide assistance to those on vacation at beaches, rivers and roads from 2pm on Easter Thursday, 28 March 2024 to the mass return of vacationers on roads that takes place mainly on Sunday, 31 March 2024. The operation officially ends on Sunday at 6pm.

Many vacationers choose to return on Saturday or Monday to avoid the long lines of cars returning to main urban centers from domestic vacation destinations.

Traffic in cities drops reflecting the shutdown of schools as of Friday, 22 March 2024. Many of those with family or friends in the interior or who have booked vacation accommodations will begin to leave the urban areas from that same Friday or early in the week.

The weather report for the Easter Week is of moderate rains due to the passing of a front, with a high pressure system bringing mostly dry weather and clear skies for the enjoyment of vacationers.
