With long lines in Agora Mall, the first Juan Valdez Café store opened in Santo Domingo this week. The Colombian coffee chain store is part of a strategic partnership with local franchisee United Brands, which expects to open another two outlets in the DR by the end of this year. One of these will be at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), targeting the younger demographic.
The Juan Valdez Café shop will compete with the market leader Café Santo Domingo with stores in most leading malls. The US coffee leading brand, Starbucks has seven stores in Santo Domingo.
Juan Valdez operates 368 stores in Colombia and has opened outlets in several Latin American markets, including Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, El Salvador, Panama, Costa Rica, Aruba and Curacao.
