The Ministry of Interior and Police reports a significant 30% decrease in what it calls “social conflictivity” with no homicides reported in 29 out of 35 high crime areas followed nationwide. The positive figures were presented during a press conference following a meeting of the Joint Task Force, led by President Luis Abinader on Monday, 7 October 2024.
New Minister of Interior & Police Faride Raful attributed the progress to the success of the “Operation Peace Guarantee,” an initiative aimed at enhancing public safety, that is cracking down on irregularly operating night spots and noise pollution.
The minister also noted a significant decrease in fatal traffic accidents, particularly on the Autopista del Este (East Highway), a major thoroughfare connecting the capital city with Punta Cana. “For the first time, there were no traffic fatalities on the East Highway,” Raful explained.
The National Police announced a specialized anti-noise unit to address complaints about excessive noise. This new department is tasked with improving response times and enforcing noise pollution regulations. The new division is reinforced as part of the new efforts for the “Operation Peace Guarantee.” The creation of this unit aligns with government efforts to enhance the quality of life for citizens and to protect public order.
