Dominican engineering behind major bypass road in San Jose, Costa Rica

Grupo Estrella of the Dominican Republic is proud of its participation in the construction of the Circunvalación Norte highway, a 5.5 km and US$223 million roadwork in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The Dominican-Costa Rican consortium, comprising Ingeniería Estrella and Constructora Hernán Solís, completed the construction of the Northern Bypass after the opening of the central trunk of Functional Unit V. The inauguration ceremony was led by Costa Rica President Rodrigo Chávez.

This project features a peripheral ring around the capital city of San José, including a 600-meter four-lane viaduct, a two-level crossing, and a 450-meter depressed passage, all recognized as the longest of their kind in Central America.

The project was financed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) with an investment of US$207 million and marks a milestone in the country’s road development. The project was begun in June 2019 and inaugurated on 4 October 2024. The project contemplated the building of the longst viaduct in the country and Costa Rica’s only three-level overpass to transform mobility and improve quality of life in the capital city. It is one of the seven strategic interventions financed by the CABEI in San José.
