In an atmosphere brimming with joy and tradition, the Presidential Palace was illuminated on Wednesday, 27 November 2024, with thousands of twinkling lights as the Dominican Republic officially kicked off its 2024 Christmas season with the grand tree lighting ceremony.
Joined by President Luis Abinader and Vice President Raquel Peña, First Lady Raquel Arbaje warmly welcomed guests with a special performance by the Dominican National Children’s Choir. Under the direction of Maestro Ángel Herdz, the young singers delivered a captivating rendition of beloved Christmas carols, both a cappella and accompanied by a string quintet.
A devote Catholic, First Lady Arbaje spoke saying: “Christmas is a time for gatherings, for sharing with our loved ones, at home, at work, in our neighborhoods, and many other places,” she said. “While these celebrations are wonderful, it’s essential that we remember the reason for the season and reflect on the birth of our Savior.”
President Abinader addressed the children in attendance, reminding them that Christmas is a time for love, joy, and togetherness with family and friends. He also encouraged everyone to continue working together to build a better future for the Dominican Republic.
