Starting on Monday, 6 January 2025, the Berklee College of Music will be at the recently re-modeled National Conservatory of Music in Santo Domingo. Some 200 young Dominican musicians will receive hands-on, personal instruction from some of the great staff at Berklee during workshops, classes and practice sessions.
Berklee en Santo Domingo 2025 is presented by the AES Dominicana Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and the National Conservatory of Music in Santo Domingo. The program is held from 6 to 11 January 2025.
There will be several lectures presented by the Berklee staff to the general public, and there will be recitals and a concert at the end of the visit.
Berklee is the school that “produced” Juan Luis Guerra, and Leon Yamil, Grammy Awards winners with a major presence in Latin American music.
There are scholarships for deserving young musicians every year. This year’s visit is being sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and the energy giants AES Dominicana’s and Itabo foundations.
The 200 were selected from over 1,000 applicants, and there will be auditions throughout the week for potential scholarships.
In 2024, the Ministry of Culture and the Berklee School of Music signed an agreement that allows students at the National Conservatory of Music to transfer as many as 34 credits to Berklee to finish their academic degree at the Boston, Massachusetts university.
