Paliza: DR-US ties stronger than ever

Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza spoke with unwavering optimism about the enduring strength of the nation’s bilateral relationship with the United States. In an interview with elCaribe-CDN, Paliza emphasized the deep-rooted connection and shared agenda between the two countries.

Addressing concerns about the potential impact of the new Trump administration, Paliza assured the public that the Dominican government anticipates an even stronger partnership moving forward. Paliza said that the announced visit on 5 February 2025 of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is a promising indicator of the positive path for bilateral relations.

“Our ties are deeply entrenched, extending beyond the personal relationships between our leaders,” Paliza explained during the interview. “Historical bonds, geographic proximity, a robust trade agreement, and the millions of Dominicans residing in the United States have forged an unbreakable connection. These factors compel us to prioritize and nurture this special relationship,” he said.

Paliza revealed that Rubio and Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez have agreed on the collaborative agenda for the upcoming visit. Key topics on the bilateral agenda include trade, migration, the situation in Haiti, and the challenges facing democracies in Latin America.

He said the primary topics that will be discussed during the visit will include trade, migration and regional stability.

“I am confident that our bilateral relations with the United States will continue to thrive,” Paliza affirmed.
