Colombia continues strong as a leading source for Dominican tourism

Dominican participation in the XXV Anato Tourism Showcase in Bogota, Colombia, under Tourism Minister David Collado, was a large one, with 45 Dominican companies present. Minister Collado told reporters that in 2025, over 400,000 tourists from Colombia visited the DR, a 19% increase from the previous year.

The strength of the Colombian market resides in that the South American destination is also attractive to Dominican tourists, making it an attractive market for both countries.

There are reports of hundreds of deals signed, and major airlines announced new frequencies adding 1,400,000 seats.

Among these, Avianca from Colombia, announced flights from Medellin and Bogota providing over 320,000 seats, with an average occupancy of 82% in 27 weekly flights to Dominican airports. Copa, based in Panama, will have 718,000 seats, averaging 87% occupancy and 70 flights per week coming from Central and Latin America. In addition, the Colombian airline Wingo, renewed their agreement to provide 149,000 seats. In 2025, the Wingo flights were 96% full with 15 flights per week.

The Dominican-based airline, Arajet, also took part in the meetings, with 272,000 seats to Colombia per year, with an average occupancy of 76% and serving seven routes from Colombia.

Joining the party is JetSmart serving the route since December 2025, providing six flights a week from Medellin and Cali to Punta Cana, with an 88% occupation rate.

Of the 11,676,901 tourist arrivals in 2025, Colombia was responsible for more than 400,000, making the South American country the third largest source of air arrivals to the country after the United States (4,100,000 pax, Canada (1,450,000 pax) and Argentina (550,000).
