Caribbean Business, Puerto Rico’s business newspaper has featured the recently announced agreement between Pan American World Airways with APA International of the Dominican Republic. John Collins reports in the 18 July edition that Jorge Rodríguez, APA’s executive vice president, says that Santo Domingo could emerge as the Latin American hub for the revived Pan American World Airways.
The agreement initially provides for Pan Am to provide two A-300 Airbuses and support services to APA so that it may resume their services between the D.R. and the U.S. Pan Am will also represent APA in the United States.
The article quotes the APA spokesman as saying that the company is aiming for an October date to start services to Miami and New York, and flights to San Juan are scheduled for December. Because of the importance of this alliance for the Dominican tourist industry, John Collin’s report on the arrangement and its implications for an increase in Latin American travel to the Dominican Republic is reprinted in this issue of The NEWS.
