Three of the current magistrates seek to continue in the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) that hears disputes related to the presidential, congressional and municipal elections. The National Council of the magistracy (CNM) convened on 28 May 2021 the process to choose the five judges of the government body.
Current TSE judges Santiago Salvador Sosa Castillo and Ramón Madera Arias seek to preside the body. Also aspiring to continue is Marcos Antonio Cruz García, the alternate who became the president of the body when then incumbent Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo was elected to preside the Central Electoral Board (JCE).
The next phase is to purge the applicants and then present the candidates to the members of the National Council of the Magistracy. The CNM members are: President Luis Abinader; the president of the Senate Eduardo Estrella; the president of the Chamber of Deputies Alfredo Pacheco; the president of the Supreme Court of Justice; and Attorney General Miriam Germán Brito. Other members are: Supreme Court of Justice judge Nancy Salcedo Fernandez, senator Bautista Rojas Gomez (Fuerza del Pueblo) and deputy Victor Fadul (Dominican Liberation Party). The members of the CNM will choose the TSE judges for four-year terms.
