Free zone sectors grow big in 2021

From January to December 2021, 100 new companies were approved to operate as export free zones in the Dominican Republic. This meant an investment of around US$231 million and 12,575 additional jobs in the sector.

During the Wednesday, 15 December wrap up meeting of the board of directors of the National Council of Export Free Zones, 24 companies were approved with the investment of US$47.6 million to create 2,690 jobs.

More than 180,000 are employed in the free zone sector.

The segments of most growth have been jewelry, cigar products, apparel, electric products, medical products.
