The Ministry of Culture has announced the winners of the 26th Biennial of the Visual Arts at the Museum of Modern Art. A total of 109 works by Dominican and foreign resident artists (five years of residence requirement), in a wide scope of artistic formats are on show at the Museum.
The awards committee was made up by Carlos Acero Ruiz, Alanna Lockward and Cuban Gerardo Mosquera. Outstanding Dominican artists participating this year include Rosa Tavares, Domingo Batista, Fernando Pena Defillo, Elsa Nunez and the late Candido Bido, with a special section dedicated to their work.
The Grand Prize was awarded to Charo Oquet’s “En un abrir y cerrar de ojos” a collection of recycled objects.

Orlando Meniccucci, Una tierra codice antillana. Painting.
Pancho Rodriguez, Mi=muro. Installation
Eliu Almonte, La casa. Performance.
Young artist award:
Wali Vidal, Of the Series Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday. Technique.
Special mentions:
Citlally Miranda, Aida, Las Virgencitas y los 7 Frank. Mixed technique.
Limbert Vilorio, Topologia tropical. Mixed technique.
Mayra Johnson and Guadalupe Casanovas, Disolucion al 4%. Photography, special technique.
