In an advance to extricate itself from a difficult situation with the government, El Caribe reports that EDE Este will start paying the Superintendence of Power the 1% fee on their invoices that is long overdue. Superintendent of Power Julio Cross had given EDE Este just three days to make a payment. Although they have agreed to remit a payment of RD$10 million, the head of EDE Este, Guillermo Iba?ez, told reporters that his company should not have to pay this money and that it should be absorbed by consumers, instead. Resolution 26-03 informed the distributor that on 3 February the Superintendent of Power?s office had been notified that charges had been drawn up against them for violation of Article 37 of the Electricity Law. This article entitles the Superintendent?s office to 1% of the gross revenues earned by companies that generate, transmit or distribute electricity. The penalty for not remitting the government its due is a fine of 5,000 minimum-wage salaries (about RD$15 million pesos).
