Laura Hernandez case in court

A court in Hig?ey heard evidence that Puerto Rican TV presenter Laura Hern?ndez and her alleged accomplices were part of a major international drug trafficking ring. In yesterday’s hearing, a video recording of the group’s arrest in Punta Cana in September 2002 was screened, in which, the prosecution alleges, a major cocaine transaction took place. Hern?ndez, her husband and six other Puerto Ricans are accused of smuggling a total of 70 kilos of cocaine into the Dominican Republic. The defense lawyer argued that the video had been ?edited?. The Puerto Rican celebrity?s arrest and imprisonment has put the Dominican penal system in the spotlight, following reports of the apparent dire conditions Hern?ndez has had to endure.
