Electricity, what else?

If Cogentrix, in San Pedro de Macor?s, doesn?t watch out, they may find themselves on the outside looking in. According to some projections done by the Coordinator of the Electric System, Cogentrix, which operates with Fuel Oil #2, will have to compete with the AES plants which will be using natural gas. C?sar S?nchez, administrator of the CDEE, said that the Cogentrix facility will not be implemented before the end of the year, and with the emergence of the Andr?s and Los Mina facilities online, Cogentrix will not be able to compete in the ?spot? market, unless it betters its financial conditions of sale. S?nchez said that the Cogentrix generators are efficient, but the terms of the sales contract have to be changed in order to compete. Nonetheless, since Cogentrix has declared to the Coordinator?s office that their costs are inordinately high, their energy will not be purchased because of price and the competition created by the natural gas generation plants.
