Take a stroll down Winston Churchill Ave. and there are four or five youths on each corner wearing Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) vests. What are they doing? El Caribe newspaper reports today that 36 AMET Juveniles have been stationed on 16 corners of the busy avenue between 27 Febrero and John F. Kennedy with the specific purpose of prohibiting vehicles from making left turns at the intersections and motorcyclists from running red lights. These youths, all under the age of 20, receive RD$2,000 a month for their time.
