The Presidency has declared three days of national mourning beginning today, Wednesday, 1 June 2016 following the death of national hero Antonio Imbert Barrera.
In decree 165-16, President Danilo Medina declares that the national flag is to be flown at half mast over all public buildings and military installations throughout the country on 1, 2 and 3 June.
96-year old General Imbert Barrera was the last survivor of the plot against Trujillo that resulted in his assassination on 30 May 1961. He died at around 4am on Tuesday, 31 May.
His remains were taken to the Santo Domingo Cathedral after a private ceremony at Blandino Funeral Home.
