At the time, the French President commented he does not understand how there could be two very different nations on “an island of blacks and mulattoes”, and asked if it was true that Dominicans and Haitians constantly have problems. The columnist says that a speculated intervention of the DR by the international community is an euphemism. “The Americans have not done well in any aspect of their intervention in Haiti. They are undoubtedly looking for a way out, but they are in a difficult position because things cannot be taken out of context.
