The business sector was unable to reach an agreement for presenting a proposal to the technical commission on the tax reform that received separate suggestions from the National Business Council (CONEP), the Industry Association of the DR (AIRD) and the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants (Asonahores). Trade unions also presented their proposals. However, the commission members agreed not to offer details until all proposals have been discussed. It has not yet identified the type of reform being developed. Although suggestions were not disclosed to the press, a hotel sector representative said they are requesting that the real estate tax as well as the tax on productive assets not be applied unless the rate is reduced by 50%. In addition, they want these taxes to be compensated with the Income Tax. Furthermore, they want zero rate on the VAT (ITBIS) for exports and alternatively a lower rate of 8% for the entire hotel sector.
