Yandra Portela and her executive board gave the CONEP proposal their blessing at a press conference yesterday. The news came after the hotel sector voiced objections to the rejection of its proposals by the technical commission. As revealed in Diario Libre, in spite of all the positive spins being placed on the final proposals, it seems that several sectors, such as the cigarette group BAT (British American Tobacco) and Franklin Baez, the executive vice-president of Brugal, have differing opinions.  In the case of BAT, they want the Selective Consumer Tax (ISC) to be based on those products that are highest in price and greater in sales. They claim that an additional RD$200 million would be forthcoming if this technique were to be applied.
