{"id":103555,"date":"2017-09-07T12:12:18","date_gmt":"2017-09-07T16:12:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dr1.com\/new\/?p=103555"},"modified":"2017-09-07T12:12:18","modified_gmt":"2017-09-07T16:12:18","slug":"canada-airlifts-tourists-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dr1.com\/news\/2017\/09\/07\/canada-airlifts-tourists-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada airlifts tourists out"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_103571\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-103571\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-103571\" src=\"http:\/\/dr1.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Air-Transat-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-103571\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Landing Toronto-Pearson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Air Transat has launched an airlift to get its travelers out of the Dominican Republic ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Irma.<\/p>\n<p>The Montreal-based airline had plans to sending 10 aircraft to the country on Wednesday, 6 September 2017 \u2013 seven to Punta Cana, two to Puerto Plata and one to Samana.<\/p>\n<p>Air Transat said all aircraft were expected to arrive in the Dominican Republic by Wednesday morning and that passengers should be back in Canada by afternoon or early evening.<\/p>\n<p>The holiday travel airline did not say how many of its travelers would board the flights back to Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Air Transat also said its scheduled flights on Thursday to Punta Cana departing from Toronto and Montreal have been cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>The airline said it would contact affected customers and offer them travel at a later date, travel to another destination subject to conditions, or cancellation with a full refund excluding travel insurance costs.<br \/>\nOther evacuations are being carried out by West Jet and Air Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The evacuations are taking place given that relocations of tourists within the Dominican Republic has been discarded because the storm is affecting the entire island.<\/p>\n<p>Read more in Spanish:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/beta.theglobeandmail.com\/report-on-business\/air-transat-sending-10-planes-to-dominican-republic-ahead-of-hurricane\" target=\"_blank\">Globe and Mail<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/world\/hurrica...blic-1.4276658\" target=\"_blank\">CBC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>7 September 2017<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Air Transat has launched an airlift to get its travelers out of the Dominican Republic ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Irma.
