In 2017, the UNESCO declared the merengue as World Intangible Cultural Heritage. Among the musicians to be acknowledged during Merengue Week are Joseito Mateo and the late Luis Diaz.<\/p>\n<p>The commemorative events include the visit of merengue legend Joseito Mateo to the Ministry of Culture at 11am on Wednesday, 22 November.<\/p>\n<p>From the 22 to the 24 November, the National Choral Singing Festival begins at the Enriquillo Sanchez Hall of the Ministry of Culture.<\/p>\n<p>To raise the awareness for merengue as of Thursday, 23 November, a merengue dance couple and a musical group will be visiting several media. Other dance couples and music groups will be animating the Santo Domingo Metro stations from 5pm.<\/p>\n<p>At the Centro Cultural Narciso Gonz\u00e1lez the National Dominican Folklore Ballet will be carrying out gala performances on Friday, 24 November, from 10am and Saturday, 25 November at 8:30pm and Sunday, 26 November at 6:30pm. There will be acknowledgements for the life work of the late folklorists Fradique Lizardo, Nereyda Rodr\u00edguez and Jos\u00e9 Castillo.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, 26 November as of 7pm, the \u201cMerengue According to Mateo\u201d will be presented at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. A music band made up of leading Dominican merengue musicians will be performing the classics that Joseito Mateo made famous throughout his long career.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Culture also announces that all day on Sunday, 26 November, there will be merengue performances at the Ministry of Culture and at the Atarazanas in the Colonial City. Simultaneously, folklore groups will be performing at venues in San Pedro de Macor\u00eds, Cotu\u00ed, San Crist\u00f3bal, Santiago, Barahona, Puerto Plata, San Francisco de Macor\u00eds, Mao, Ban\u00ed, Azua, Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo Norte, Santo Domingo Este and Santo Domingo Oeste.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, 29 November the show \u201cAy Ombe\u201d will be held at the main hall of the National Theater as of 8:30pm to honor Luis Diaz.
