{"id":110731,"date":"2018-03-21T07:07:43","date_gmt":"2018-03-21T11:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dr1.com\/new\/?p=110731"},"modified":"2018-03-21T07:07:43","modified_gmt":"2018-03-21T11:07:43","slug":"export-industrial-free-zones-continue-to-grow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dr1.com\/news\/2018\/03\/21\/export-industrial-free-zones-continue-to-grow\/","title":{"rendered":"Export industrial free zones continue to grow"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_110760\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-110760\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-110760\" src=\"http:\/\/dr1.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Free-Zone-growth-Diario-Libre-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-110760\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Diario Libre<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The executive director of the National Council of Free Zones, Luisa Fern\u00e1ndez has announced that in 2017, the export industrial free zone sector grew by 4.4% over 2016 and that 71 new parks were opened with 665 companies in operation.<\/p>\n<p>A report on the accounts for 2017 showed that the investments in the Free Zones grew to US$4,473.1 million, which is a 3.3% increase over the previous year and the number of companies increased by 20 for a 3.1% increase.<\/p>\n<p>She said that 49.2% of the companies were in the northern area, 24.4% in the National District and Santo Domingo province, 14% in the south and 12.5% in the eastern region.<\/p>\n<p>Free zones continued to employ the highest number of direct employees in the Dominican economy with 165,724 workers; technicians and administrative people employed which was a 1.6% increase over 2016.
