In reality, the country\u2019s illiteracy rate is currently 6.8% and to achieve the goal of less than 5% around 80,000 people still need to be taught to read and write.<\/p>\n<p>In order to meet this goal, 30 municipalities have been selected who will have the largest effect on reducing the national rate of illiteracy due to their large populations. Among the municipalities chosen for the program are Santo Domingo, Santiago, San Crist\u00f3bal, Azua, Puerto Plata, El Seibo and Yaguate.
