The Ministry of Tourism, in a strategic alliance with the Embassy of Japan in the Dominican Republic, and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), participated in the Travel Tourism Expo Japan held 20-23 September 2018 at the Tokyo Big Sight Conference Center. This was an opportunity to present Dominican travel vacations to the Japanese market.<\/p>\n
For two days, the Dominican delegation met with Japan travel professionals and conversations were opened for future business with key players such as JTB, Nippon Travel Agency, KNT-CT Holdings, Hankyu Travel International, as reported by the Ministry of Tourism. The Dominican delegation also held promising talks with World Air-Sea Service, Meitetsu World Travel, Rakuten, ANA, JAL Pack, Nihonbashi Travelers, among others.<\/p>\n
“Our participation in the Travel Tourism Expo Japan is proof of the high interest of this market in the Dominican Republic,\u201d said Indira Jos\u00e9, international promotion director for the Ministry. She said Japanese showed much interest in stories on Dominican cuisine, nature travel, and complementary attractions around the country.<\/p>\n
Jos\u00e9 expressed appreciation for the support of the Japanese Embassy and JICA. \u201cWith teamwork and an invaluable collaboration with the Embassy of the Dominican Republic of Japan and JICA, we managed to present the best tourism promotion of our country to the Japanese market,” added Jos\u00e9. She explained the Japanese are interested in authentic cultural experiences. Over the years, JICA has been very active identifying and supporting community and ecotourism opportunities in small towns and rural areas, well off the beaten path of mass tourism.<\/p>\n
Jos\u00e9 said that as part of activities of the participation of the Dominican delegation, a meeting was held with All Nipon Airways (ANA) and it was agreed that ANA and United Airlines would codeshare to facilitate air connections and more arrivals of Japanese to the country.<\/p>\n
Travel Tourism Expo Japan is organized by the Japan Travel and Tourism Association (JTTA), Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) and Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO). Its organizers say over 207,000 persons visited the stands and participated in exposition activities this year.<\/p>\n
