The strike was supposedly held to protest high fuel prices and prices of basic good as well as high crime rates and government corruption. Traffic began to flow normally again in the early morning and schools reopened. The strike affected 14 provinces and there were stand offs between police and demonstrators who burned tires and threw garbage onto public roads.
