A man who is being sought for extradition by the US for his connection to the Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo case, was arrested at Las Americas International Airport on his return from Cuba. Diario Libre reports that Jose Ortega de Leon was arrested as he walked down the stairs of the airplane that brought him to the DR. The Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) Criminal Chamber had issued an arrest warrant against Ortega at the request of the Attorney General Department and the United States Embassy. He is considered to be part of a group led by Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo, who is in custody in the US for his connection to the seizure of 1,387 kilos of cocaine in Santo Domingo in December 2004. Twenty-one people are detained in the US in connection with this case.<\/p>\n
In a separate case, another man wanted in extradition was arrested while trying to board a plane to Venezuela using false identity papers. Cesar Bueno, a.k.a. “El Maton” is facing drug-trafficking conspiracy charges in the US. The SCJ Criminal Chamber had issued an arrest warrant against him. Bueno had allegedly bragged that he would never be caught.<\/p>\n
In other cases reported by Diario Libre, Bernardo Jimenez Carela was arrested for his connection with drug trafficking in the US.
