The honors continue to be bestowed on businessman and philantropist Manuel Arsenio Urena as well as the well-known Jose Armando Bermudez (Popy), two of the most prominent businessmen in the nation. Urena, born in the mountains south of Santiago near the town of Janico, is well known for the literacy campaign that converted the town of Janico into the only town in the nation that is 100% literate. Bermudez, one of the more famous names associated with the rum industry, is also well known for his support of different sports activities as well as cultural activities throughout the country. Both men were honored by the Chamber of Deputies yesterday for their contributions to the development of the nation as well as their stature as businessmen and leaders of community service. The award ceremony took place in the offices of Alfredo Pacheco, the president of the chamber.<\/p>\n
Bermudez thanked the deputies for the honor and pledged to continue working for the good of the nation.
