Alejandro Mont\u00e1s, director of the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewage Corporation (CAASD) announced the permanent shutdown of operations of the concrete manufacturer, Hormigones Am\u00e9rica. The company\u2019s operations beside the Ozama River, caused a major breakdown to a 67-inch pipeline bringing water from the Valdesia reservoir to Santo Domingo, and leaving more than 80 sectors in Greater Santo Domingo without the service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mont\u00e1s would later reveal the company was operating without the environmental permit to do so. This was also confirmed by Environment Minister \u00c1ngel Est\u00e9vez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mont\u00e1s said his department is suing the company for damages in San Crist\u00f3bal. Damages are estimated at RD$71 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lawsuit includes company partners Gabino Aroldo Ramos Guzm\u00e1n, V\u00edctor Ram\u00f3n Ramos Guzm\u00e1n, Isa\u00edas Ramos Guzm\u00e1n and Isa\u00edas Odalis Ramos Ferreyra, representatives of Hormigones Am\u00e9rica, according to the business registration service, Registro Mercantil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
