The head of the National Center for Dominican Workers (CNTD), Jacobo Ramos, rejected the proposal made by the National Business Council (Conep), the leading business organization, that said there was an urgent need to review various models of labor separation payment structures (known as \u201ccesantias\u201d in Spanish). He told reporters that this is the policy of management to reduce the quality of Dominican jobs because the business leaders in this country are not satisfied with the thousands of exemptions (tax exemptions) and other incentives that the government gives them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramos also said that the business\/management sector wants to eliminate the labor benefits, something he said \u201cwould not pass.\u201d He said: \u201cWe absolutely reject the proposal made by Conep; we continue to stand by our position that the \u2018cesantia\u2019 is a sacred affair for the working class of the Dominican Republic and under no circumstance are we going to allow this worker\u2019s benefit to be eliminated.\u201d He noted to reporters from the El Nacional newspaper that the Constitution says that the Labor Code cannot be revised in order to remove benefits already held by the workers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Conep position for reducing new worker separation benefits, also included the review of worker contracts, working hours, innovations and a few other points they consider important for the productive sector, and especially for small business and to generate jobs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
