The warning was issued on 1 May 2019, and says that the virus has been detected in areas where it had not occurred previously. The virus is known to circulate in tropical South America. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previous outbreaks in the Americas have been in rural areas, although it is thought it can also be transmitted in urban areas as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayaro virus is a mosquito-borne virus that is very similar to Dengue and Chikungunya.
