Hans Dannenberg Castellanos presented credentials to the President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi yesterday, officially becoming the first Dominican ambassador to India. On the same day, the Indian President also received credentials from new ambassadors for Ecuador, Ethiopia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyztan, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mauritius.<\/p>\n
After the presentation of credentials, the President of India met with the heads of missions, stressing the need to develop joint projects and programs with India, based on the core competencies of both nations, which he said would be a win-win proposition for both. Dr. Kalam also urged that bilateral trade between India and these nations should increase from their present levels.<\/p>\n
During his conversation with Dr Kalam, Ambassador Dannenberg discussed Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso’s recent to India and meetings with Indian businesspeople, as well as President Leonel Fernandez’ planned visit to India. Also mentioned were the possibilities of South-South Cooperation, digital connectivity for education, and India’s technological development. Likewise, Dannenberg discussed opportunities for Indian pharmaceutical companies in the DR with the implementation of DR-CAFTA. Also raised was the tourism industry and expectations for sustainable growth, the potential for cooperation with India in developing local ethanol processing facilities for energy generation, and possible cooperation with the Center of Biotechnology of India.
