The Presidency announced the creation of the National Committee for Tourist Safety. The committee had been in the making since last year, with the backing of the National Hotel & Tourism Association (Asonahores). Roberto Rodr\u00edguez Marchena, via his Twitter account, said the committee was created by Decree 287-19 dated 3 September 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new government entity seeks to develop a climate of security within the national tourism sector and will formulate recommendations as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) is the committee chair. The new government entity integrates 18 other government departments, including the ministries of Defense, Interior & Police, the National Police, the 911 Emergency Service, the Center for Emergency Operations (COE), and the National Institute for Terrestrial Transit and Transport (Intrant), among others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The decree also called for the development of the National Program for Tourist Security under the Specialized Corps of Tourist Security (CESTUR). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
