According to the National Seismological Center in the UASD in Santo Domingo, the quake hit at 5:50pm and was centered 6.7 km west of Nagua at a depth of 21 kilometers. No damages or injuries have been reported. La Romana also felt a quake of 4.0 just a few minutes before the one in Nagua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people remember the devastation and deaths caused by a very large (7.0) quake that hit Nagua back in 1946, causing a tsunami that wiped out much of the city. Nagua, along with the entire eastern part of the Dominican Republic, faces the Puerto Rico Trench, the deepest canyon in the Atlantic Ocean and where the North American tectonic plate meets the Caribbean tectonic plate.
