The Dominican high school student team assembled a robot capable of solving environmental problems and addressing global climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team members were students Anthony Cruz Hern\u00e1ndez, Jessica Reynoso Gonz\u00e1lez and Briana Gonz\u00e1lez Rodr\u00edguez all from the Liceo Cient\u00edfico Dr. Miguel Canela L\u00e1zaro. The vocational public high school is located in the former manufacturing free zone on the Carretera Manolo Tavarez Justo between Salcedo and Villa Tapia, in northeastern Hermanas Mirabal province. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also part of the team were Juan Garrido La Paix from Colegio Cardenal Sancha in Santo Domingo East and Alexa Rodr\u00edguez Alc\u00e1ntara from the Centro Educativo Mar\u00eda Inmaculada in Santo Domingo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students were accompanied by the teachers Waldu Gonz\u00e1lez and Issac V\u00e1squez. V\u00e1squez won the Outstanding Mentor award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a press release, in addition to the bronze, the Dominicans won the &#8220;Safety Award&#8221; that is given to robots that meet all the requirements of the contest and certificates of excellence for the entire delegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The First Global Challenge (World Robotics Olympics) brought together the best around 1,000 students ages 14 to 18 from almost 200 countries, where they competed to demonstrate skills and intelligence as a team. Of the nine challenges that the Dominican team faced, it managed to overcome five with excellent results and that earned them the bronze medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Liceo Cient\u00edfico team was led by Professor Waldu Gonz\u00e1lez and had the support of students Lisbeth Gonz\u00e1lez, Erismel Hern\u00e1ndez and Luis Rivas, along with Professor Jos\u00e9 Enrique Ulloa in the creating of the robot.
