Navy spokesman, naval Captain Fajardo Martinez, said that on the instructions of Vice Admiral Emilio Recio Segura, a team of military divers, sealed the fuel tanks of the sunken boat so that it would not continue to contaminate the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The boat, 64-foot-long \u201cKillicDominik\u201d is owned by a company of the same name and sank some five nautical miles to the south of Punta Salinas, Bani, in front of an area of the ocean called \u201cel Derrumbao\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Captain Martinez said that the naval technicians are continuing to evaluate if there is a possibility of rescuing the vessel, though to have sunk when water entered through the exhaust of the engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far there has been minimal damage as the fuel used was diesel, which evaporates quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read more in Spanish:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/elnacional.com.do\/armada-controla-derrame-carburante\/\">El Nacional<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3 December 2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Dominican Navy has informed that Navy divers have been able to control the fuel leak from a boat that sank off the coast of Bani.
