Several business organizations have rejected the protectionist measures in the process of being implemented by the Dominican government to protect local producers of milk and sugar. The Uni\u00f3n de Due\u00f1os de Panader\u00edas Asociados, the Federaci\u00f3n Dominicana de Comerciantes, the Asociaci\u00f3n de Importadores de Leche en Lata, Asociaci\u00f3n Nacional de Fabricantes de Dulces y Afines, Frente Nacional de Defensa al Consumidor, Asociaci\u00f3n de Fabricantes de Helados, Asociaci\u00f3n de Industrias Farmc\u00e9uticas Dominicana, and the Asociaci\u00f3n de Embotelladores de Bebidas Gaseosas protested against the 100%+ quota tariffs the government wants to impose, supposedly to support the crumbling state sugar industry, two private producers and local milk distributors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
