The president of the Asociaci\u00f3n Dominicana de Caficultores, Eusebio Guzm\u00e1n, has told the press that the 1995-1996 coffee harvest ended with production totaling 800,000 quintals and that exports will reach 560,000 quintals, generating US$65 million. Mr. Guzm\u00e1n said that 1996-1997 should show a 50% decline because plantations in the Cibao and the South have not flourished. The 1994-1995 crop came to US$92 million, reflecting the higher international market prices that year. While last year a quintal sold for US$180, this year the price dropped to US$140.
