He was 78. Culture Minister Eduardo Selman expressed his sorrow: &#8220;An illustrious Dominican has died, probably our most internationally-renowned artist.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tovar had been awarded the National Visual Arts Award in 2018. Born in San Francisco de Macor\u00eds, in 1963 he relocated to Paris, France, where he lived for more than 20 years. He is regarded as the most outstanding Dominican surrealist artist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His wife, actress Mar\u00eda Castillo said that Tovar did not die of coronavirus.
