The number of PCR cases for the bulletin is 1,970, down from 2,907 the previous day.

The tally of deaths is now 675, including 6 new registered deaths. The previous 14-day average is 9.4. Both Public Health Minister Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas and the director of the National Health Service, Chanel Rosa Chupany have stated that the death tally does not necessarily reflect the deaths for the period covered by the bulletin and deaths that are now being registered could have occurred in the past. During the 23 June press conference, Dr. Sánchez Cárdenas said that of the 675 deaths, there are around 200 that are probable Covid-19 deaths, not confirmed deaths.

As of Bulletin #96, 2,824 patients are hospitalized, up from 2,726 patients in the previous bulletin. Of these, 173 patients are in intensive care units. The fatality rate, the number of reported deaths per number of confirmed cases, is 2.42%, down from 2.44% in the previous bulletin.

Previous bulletin results have been:
Bulletin #95: 27,370 confirmed cases, 693 new cases, 669 deaths, 128,775 PCR tests, new deaths 7
Bulletin #94: 26,677 confirmed cases, 899 new cases, 662 deaths, 125,868 PCR tests, new deaths 7
Bulletin #93: 25,778 confirmed cases, 710 new cases, 655 deaths, 122,646 PCR tests, new deaths 8
Bulletin #92: 25,068 confirmed cases, 423 new cases, 647 deaths, 119,319 PCR tests, new deaths 12
Bulletin #91: 24,645 confirmed cases, 540 new cases, 635 deaths, 117,119 PCR tests, new deaths 2
Bulletin #90: 24,105 confirmed cases, 419 new cases, 633 deaths, 114,535 PCR tests, new deaths 18
Bulletin #89: 23,686 confirmed cases, 415 new cases, 615 deaths, 112,603 PCR tests, new deaths 10
Bulletin #88: 23,271 confirmed cases, 309 new cases, 605 deaths, 110,781 PCR tests, new deaths 28
Bulletin #87: 22,962 confirmed cases, 390 new cases, 592 deaths, 109,022 PCR tests, new deaths 15
Bulletin #86: 22,572 confirmed cases, 564 new cases, 577 deaths, 107,175 PCR tests, new deaths 9
Bulletin #85: 22,008 confirmed cases, 571 new cases, 568 deaths, 105,016 PCR tests, new deaths 7
Bulletin #84: 21,437 confirmed cases, 629 new cases, 561 deaths, 102,500 PCR tests, new deaths 6
Bulletin #83: 20,808 confirmed cases, 393 new cases, 550 deaths, 100,035 PCR tests, new deaths 11
Bulletin #82: 20,415 confirmed cases, 289 new cases, 544 deaths, 98,100 PCR tests, new deaths 5
Bulletin #81: 20,126 confirmed cases, 526 new cases, 539 deaths, 97,040 PCR tests, new deaths 1
Bulletin #80: 19,600 confirmed cases, 405 new cases, 538 deaths, 94,511 PCR tests, new deaths 13
Bulletin #79: 19,195 confirmed cases, 487 new cases, 536 deaths, 92,220 PCR tests, new deaths 5
Bulletin #78: 18,708 confirmed cases, 389 new cases, 525 deaths, 90,141 PCR tests, new deaths 4
Bulletin #77: 18,319 confirmed cases, 279 new cases, 520 deaths, 88,056 PCR tests, new deaths 1
Bulletin #76: 18,040 confirmed cases, 288 new cases, 516 deaths, 86,285 PCR tests, new deaths 13
Bulletin #75: 17,752 confirmed cases, 180 new cases, 515 deaths, 84,638 PCR tests, new deaths 0
Bulletin #74: 17,572 confirmed cases, 287 new cases, 502 deaths, 83,444 PCR tests, new deaths 4
Bulletin #73: 17,285 confirmed cases, 377 new cases, 502 deaths, 81,647 PCR tests, new deaths 10
Bulletin #72: 16,908 confirmed cases, 377 new cases, 498 deaths, 79,172 PCR tests, new deaths 3
Bulletin #71: 16,531 confirmed cases, 463 new cases, 488 deaths, 76,930 PCR tests, new deaths 11
Bulletin #70: 16,068 confirmed cases, 345 new cases, 485 deaths, 74,612 PCR tests, new deaths 6

It is a known fact that the more tests that are carried out, the more confirmed cases there will be. Despite billions spent by the Medina administration during the National State of Emergency, the country has never been able to boost its PCR testing capacity to adequate levels for a nation with 10 million people. Of the tests, an estimated 80% are carried out by private labs that have been more successful in sourcing the testing kits than the public health authorities. The average testing over the past 14 days is now at 2,331 PCR tests. The numbers of diagnostic tests carried out over the past 14 days [the difference between the PCR tests reported in the past bulletin] are: 1,970 (Bulletin #96), 2,907 (Bulletin #95), 3,222 (Bulletin #94), 3,327 (Bulletin #93), 2,200 (Bulletin #92), 2,584 (Bulletin #91), 1,932 (Bulletin (#90), 1,822 (Bulletin #89), 1,759 (Bulletin #88), 1,847 (Bulletin #87), 2,159 (Bulletin #86), 2,516 (Bulletin #85), 2,465 (Bulletin #84), 1,935 (Bulletin #83), 1,060 (Bulletin #82), 2,529 (Bulletin #81), 2,351 (Bulletin #80), 2,079 (Bulletin #79), 2,085 (Bulletin #78), 1,771 (Bulletin #77).

The statistical reports do not include rapid response blood antibody tests or patients diagnosed with tomography or other means. The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people.

As of Monday, 22 June 2020 at 4pm, the most confirmed cases continue to be reported in urban areas where most of the tests are carried out. Greater Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo province and the National District) has 54.6% of the 27,370 total confirmed cases. Santiago, San Cristobal, La Vega, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), Espaillat, La Romana, La Altagracia (Higuey, Verón, Punta Cana), Puerto Plata, Azua, Monseñor Nouel (Bonao), Barahona, Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí), Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo), San Juan de la Maguana and San Pedro de Macoris are provinces that have 200 or more cases.

The most new cases or recently allocated cases are reported for the 22 June deadline are: Santo Domingo province (204), National District (136), Santiago (52), San Cristóbal (32), La Altagracia (12), La Romana (10), Monseñor Nouel (10), La Vega (7), San Juan de la Maguana (7), Hermanas Mirabal (6), Azua (6), Puerto Plata (5), San Pedro de Macoris (4), Peravia (4), María Trinidad Sánchez (3), Sánchez Ramírez (2), Valverde (2), Espaillat (2) and Samaná (2). The Ministry of Public Health reports one or no confirmed cases in 13 of 31 provinces and the National District. The number of recorded cases is dependent on the availability of PCR tests that continue to be scarce, especially in the provinces where waiting lists are long.

According to Bulletin #96, the evolution of the health crisis nationwide is:
Santo Domingo province: 8,081 cases, 214 new cases, 142 deaths, 3 new deaths
National District: 7,020 cases, 136 new cases, 115 deaths
Santiago: 1,884 cases, 79 new cases, 93 deaths, 1 new death
San Cristóbal: 1,691 cases, 46 new cases, 31 deaths
La Vega: 1,162 cases, 26 new cases, 34 deaths
Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís): 849 cases, 1 new case, 86 deaths
La Romana: 720 cases, 26 new cases, 10 deaths
Espaillat (Moca, Gaspar Hernández): 697 cases, 2 new cases, 14 deaths
La Altagracia (Higuey, Verón, Punta Cana): 667 cases, 12 new cases, 2 deaths
Azua: 562 cases, 6 new cases, 10 deaths
Barahona: 444 cases, 7 deaths
Puerto Plata: 434 cases, 5 new cases, 33 deaths, 1 new death
Monseñor Nouel (Bonao): 394 cases, 10 new cases, 7 deaths
Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí): 293 cases, 2 new cases, 9 deaths
Hermanas Mirabal / Salcedo: 259 cases, 6 new cases, 18 deaths
San Juan de la Maguana: 252 cases, 7 new cases, 8 deaths, 1 new death
San Pedro de Macorís: 235 cases, 4 new cases, 14 deaths
María Trinidad Sánchez / Nagua: 192 cases, 3 new cases, 4 deaths
Valverde: 176 cases, 2 new cases, 11 deaths
Peravia: 163 cases, 4 new cases, 7 deaths
Santiago Rodríguez: 71 cases, 4 deaths
Independencia: 69 cases, 1 death
Samaná: 65 cases, 2 new cases, 1 death
Monte Plata: 54 cases, 7 deaths
San José de Ocoa: 52 cases, 2 deaths
Montecristi: 46 cases, 1 death
Pedernales: 45 cases
Elías Piña: 40 cases, 1 death
El Seibo: 35 cases
Dajabón: 21 cases
Baoruco: 20 cases, 1 death
Hato Mayor: 18 cases, 2 deaths

Haiti reports 5,211 confirmed cases and 88 deaths, as of 21 June 2020.

In the Americas, the Dominican Republic is ranked 10th in confirmed cases after the United States, Brazil, Peru, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, and Argentina.

See the Ministry of Public Health epidemiological bulletins

Read more statistical analysis at:
John Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center
University of Washington Health Data
University of Oxford Covid Tracker
Worldometer
SICA

24 June 2020

According to Coronavirus Bulletin #96 of the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 27,936 confirmed cases, 566 new confirmed cases from 130,745 PCR diagnostic tests.
