According to the Electoral Law this status gives access to generous taxpayer funding from the government, but parties need to have garnered at least 5% of the vote in a general election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of mid-day of 6 July, the PRD had but 2.41% of the vote (88,147) and the PRSC had 1.78% (65,132 votes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As reported in Listin Diario, the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) will be keeping their majority party status. This year, the People&#8217;s Force (Fuerza del Pueblo) is likely to be the newcomer to the exclusive club of beneficiaries of taxpayer money. The FP was born after Leonel Fernandez split from the PLD. Now with a smaller party, the funds the FP will receive will go a longer way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What&#8217;s up for stake is party&#8217;s reaching 5% or more of the vote in the presidential election level benefit from receiving 80% of the economic funding from the state to the political parties.
