While as of November 2019 non-resident air arrivals to the Dominican Republic were 5,821,768, this 2020 as of November, only 2,056,856 air arrivals have come. This is a 65% decline compared to last year. Central Bank statistics say that Dominicans living abroad made up 58% of the total arrivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The numbers do not include cruise ship arrivals travelers. Maritime travel collapsed in March and has not resumed yet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As reported, non-resident air arrivals in November 2020 was 175,100 (101,834 foreigners and 73,266 Dominicans), 38% of the stats for November 2019. The Central Bank say that the November numbers continue to show a gradual recovery of the sector. Nevertheless, it reports that source markets abroad are significantly affected by the spread of Covid-19. The forecast is that arrivals will continue to be conditioned by the global evolution of the pandemic and the effectiveness of vaccination programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the total air arrivals, 63.1% were from North America (United States, Canada and Mexico), 22.8% from Europe, 10.2% from South America, 3.5% from Central America and the Caribbean, and 0.4% from the rest of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were declines in air arrivals from the United States (-1,444,325), Canada (-434,375), Argentina (-136,932), Germany (-130,064), France (-124,352), United Kingdom (-116,836), Russia (-113,125) and Spain (-1112,960), among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Punta Cana International Airport received 846,722 arrivals, Las Americas International (Santo Domingo) 324,878, Puerto Plata 141,605, Cibao (Santiago) 97,757, La Romana 65,347, Saman\u00e1 25,597 and Isabela (Santo Domingo) 11,356.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read more in Spanish:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/bancentral.gov.do\/Publicaciones\/Consulta?CategoryId=88\">Central Bank<\/a><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>28 December 2020<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The impact of Covid-19 on Dominican tourism is clear.
