Travel to the Dominican Republic is a bright point in the global travel industry. A combination of friends and relatives\u2019 traffic and resilient travelers has made this small island in the Caribbean a shining star in travel statistics during the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the OAG, the world\u2019s leading provider of travel data and insights, the Dominican Republic to USA is one of the top twenty country pairs in the number of airline seats available on connecting routes. Mexico to USA is first with 3,300,724, followed by the United Arab Emirates to India with 995,864. The Dominican Republic to USA is third with 776,434. Puerto Rico to USA is fourth with 675,916.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What stands out the most is that the Dominican Republic is that airline seating capacity in January 2021 was 14.9% more than in January 2020! OAG highlights that amongst its list of the Top 20 largest, the DR is the only country to have recovered to pre-Covid levels with capacity now 15% above last January\u2019s levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the OAG report reveals that the Santiago-New York route is 6th most traveled in January 2021 with 108,876 seats booked. The busiest routes in January 2021 were:

Reports from Punta Cana International Airport are that despite the restrictions on travel from the USA, flight capacity has picked up to get tourists to the resorts this winter. The people are arriving in droves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
