The expansion seeks to remove cargo traffic from entering the capital city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ecological Avenue expansion is the third major road expansion announced for Santo Domingo East in March. President Abinader had already announced the expansion of the San Isidro and H\u00edpica avenues in eastern Santo Domingo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Public Works Minister Deligne Ascenci\u00f3n says the road will directly benefit 857,000 people living in Santo Domingo East. The construction of the road will connect the Multimodal Port of Caucedo with Boca Chica. The road will facilitate cargo and passenger movement as well as connect to the new Circunvalaci\u00f3n Santo Domingo road that reaches the Port of Haina. The Circunvalaci\u00f3n borders the capital city to the north. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This road will connect traffic from the East through the intersection with the Juan Bosch Ring Road and with the regions of Cibao and the south of the country, as well as numerous neighborhoods in the Greater Santo Domingo area. People will no longer need to enter the center of the city or areas of the National District,&#8221; said Ascenci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The road will have four lanes of a width of 3.50 meters each. Walkways, pedestrian areas, and two exclusive bus lanes will be built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first part of the road that runs through urban areas has 963.37 meters long. Section two will run through rural area with 9.7 km stretch to be added with the four lanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deligne Ascenci\u00f3n estimates the project will take two years.
