Diario Libre and Acento are reporting on important security cameras at Las Americas International Airport being out of service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Listin Diario reports that a commission of senior officers of the National Investigations Department (DNI) is leading the investigations into the case of sabotage of the runway lighting system at the Las Americas International Airport on the evening of Sunday, 23 May 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also participating are senior officers of Cesac, the Intelligence Division of the Ministry of Defense and the Central Directorate of Investigations of the National Police (Dicrim).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The director of the Specialized Airport and Civil Aviation Security Corps (Cesac) Mayor General Carlos Febrillet Rodr\u00edguez said there had been \u201ca short circuit due to an interference\u201d. He said the process is under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice President Raquel Pe\u00f1a disputed the version of the short circuit. In a tweet, she said that the investigation carried out by Cesac and Civil Aviation confirmed that an act of vandalism caused the outage of the runway at Las Americas International Airport. She said the criminals penetrated to the restricted area, cut the cables that fed the runway lights and left these in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Losses are estimated at around RD$30 million. The blackout lasted from 7:12pm to 11:45 pm on Sunday, 23 May 2021. It affected around 3,360 passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acento has reported major failures in the security systems installed at the airport under the Cesac.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
